Football for beginners in Kingston

We Make Footballers
01 April 2022

If you’ve got a football-mad kid in the Kingston area who is now at the stage where they’re old enough to start kicking a ball around, then you might be wondering how you can help them get into playing on a more regular basis and enjoying the sport with their peers.

The answer to that one is by getting them signed up to football coaching classes. The professional coaches at these sessions are trained to help beginners learn the fundamentals, have fun and get started in learning a new sport. Playing in a structured environment on a regular basis will help their game come on leaps and bounds, especially combined with their regular sessions in the back garden, in the park or at school.

There are a whole host of football classes for beginners in the Kingston area for you to choose from. Here are two of the best in the area catering for beginners of all ages in this side of West London:

S4K Football

If your child is under 3, then S4K Football can help them kick off their journey in the beautiful game despite their relatively young age. They hold classes at the Tolworth Recreation Centre with sessions based around Dutch Coerver, Spanish Tiki-Taka and Brazilian Futsal methods of training.

S4K help to develop a child’s mini and micro motor skills using the Montessori teaching method and best practices from child psychology and learning and there is a Practice@home book which can help players develop their skill levels outside of classes.

We Make Footballers

The newest kids on the block, We Make Footballers launched their Kingston football academy for children of all abilities between the ages of 4 and 12 in September and already it has proven to be a success with players and parents in the local areas.

Coaches use “discovery learning” in the sessions by asking players lots of questions, encouraging creativity and creating as much playing time with the ball as possible to ensure that young ones start to build a football memory through experience playing. They are specialised in helping beginners and young players learn the fundamentals whilst having fun.

As well as providing weekly coaching sessions all-year round using the indoor and outdoor facilities at the Tiffin Girls School, the We Make Footballers network have established links with various clubs who can help players progress beyond beginners in the game.

For children in the Under 6 and Under 7 age group, that could be with the local team that We Make Footballers have partnered with. For those who really excel, opportunities can arise to trial with professional clubs with many of We Make Footballers coaches also working in the game as scouts and coaches, making them perfectly positioned to recommend a player. Over 180 players have secured contracts at academies over the years in this way.

Most important of all though is that We Make Footballers encourage children to have fun in a safe environment. The first session for each player is free, which is a great way for your child to test the academy out. They won’t be disappointed!
