Benefits of Indoor Football

We Make Footballers
04 April 2022

As the winter approaches we begin to turn our attention to taking our sessions inside at our WMF Sussex facilities! Our Coaching Team are so excited to continue helping players become the best they can be and in this blog we’ll talk about the benefits of indoor sessions that are key to the development of any player.

1) The Weather

Climate control is the obvious, and a big one! Being inside means that the weather cannot dictate whether we train or not, it is extremely rare that an indoor session will be cancelled. It’s also really important to keep players dry and warm so they’re not heading off to school with the sniffles on Monday morning! With our classes starting from the age of 4, it’s really important to make sure that children play in an environment where they are safe and can learn in the best conditions.
We’ve also heard some great feedback from parents who prefer to cheer their kids on in our warm indoors session instead of outdoors in the winter months!

2) Technical Development

The limited space has so many advantages, the walls mean the ball is in-play longer and encourages minimal stoppages therefore leading to more touches on the ball which is great for improving ball mastery and skills. Tight playing areas mean the players are forced to protect the ball, use turns and skills to escape sticky situations, plus less time on the ball encourages decision making at speed. Due to the high repetition nature of being indoors, if they do make a mistake – it’s not long before they get the opportunity to have another attempt and self-correct.

3) More playing and time on the ball

Small Sided Games are a coach’s favourite and being indoors gives us the perfect opportunity to play them! Less players on the pitch mean more touches on the ball per player, more goalscoring opportunities per player, high tempo matches meaning each player is more physically involved and as coach’s SSG’s give us a great chance to observe and coach each individual player. But most importantly they are FUN and adaptable, so the game never gets boring!

In a nutshell, going inside does not only keep us all dry! It is a great tool to help us on our journey to develop technical, skilful, confident HAPPY Footballers. Our weekly session takes place on a Saturday and welcomes players of all abilities, contact us today to book your free session!
