Girls Football in Essex is Growing Quickly!

With the Women's World Cup recently coming to a close, it's a perfect time to sit back an reflect on some of the amazing football on show this summer... and also think about how quickly and positively the women's game is changing!

Since WMF Essex's inception in November 2018 we are very proud to confirm that around 15-18% of our weekly attendees are girls! This is up from a big 0% in our opening month! How fantastic is that!?!

We get asked a lot "Will you be running girls only sessions?" and the answer to that at the moment is still the same... 'maybe'. We are working very hard behind the scenes to weigh up the pros and cons of running single sex sessions like this.

WMF Essex Academy Director David Pipe was fortunate enough to recently attend an Essex FA workshop focussing on the growth of the female game. There, he had the privilege to meet numerous top coaches within the female game but also 5 players who are part of England's Ladies U14 and U16 squads. 

David said "It was fascinating to listen to these players. The biggest takeaway for me was each player stated that playing/training with boys definitely helped their development and made them better players, although they also admitted that they sometimes enjoyed all female sessions too. I am trying to use this valuable insight to come up with some great ideas to not only help the growth of WMF Essex but also benefit girls football in the area at the same time." 

WMF Essex are very proud of the growing numbers of female players at their sessions and hope it continues.

We are continually looking into new ways to engage all of our players, both male and female, and at the moment we hope the parents of our players will agree that the way our trained coaches carefully mix the female and male players during our sessions is really working and showing great results for each player's development.
